Today the National Bureau of Statistics in China reported inflation figures through July. Inflation is now reported to be in a very benign range, with overall inflation running at 1.8% and food inflation running at 2.4%:
Although no one fully trusts Chinese government statistics, this does at least suggest that, for now at least, the government is succeeding in its goal of gradually bringing growth down to a more sustainable level, without causing a recession.
