World trade volume remains on growth trend

25 Nov 2012 by Jim Fickett.

Although there is little doubt that this year saw some slowing of growth in the world economy, the growth trend in the volume of the world trade in goods has not changed. The resolution of this apparent contradiction is that while the dollar value of trade decelerated, the number of tons of coal, number of computers, etc, continued to grow at the same pace, on average and across all categories (see Conflicting signs in global trade).
