I track a smoothed months-of-supply measure for US natural gas in storage. This is the 12-month average (to smooth seasonal variation) of gas in storage, divided by the 12-month average of consumption. In the last few months this measure has fallen steeply, and is now towards the low end of its typical variation. In other words, demand has significantly exceeded new supply recently. This is good news for gas exploration and production companies.
